EDITOR'S NOTE

Greetings,

A major trend in government IT is to consolidate and rationalise many similar functions under one big bang mandatory panel or lead agency.

In Canada, a budget-driven government has created an ambitious shared-services agency. Australian states have experimented with this model with varying results.

Although IT costs should drop under a shared-services model, there are questions about its impact on innovation and user satisfaction.

The Department of Finance monitors such developments in Australia and overseas. As will we ... stay tuned.
