Victoria has taken further steps towards its smart metering rollout with the announcement that the US vendor Silver Spring will supply the meter technology to two utilities.

UED and Jemena will use the Silver Spring meters, serving just under a million customers.

It's expected some 2.5 million homes will be connected when the Victoria State Government's smart grid project is completed.
