EDITOR'S NOTE

Good morning,

It may be April fool's day but what Energy Australia is doing with smart metering in Australia is (thankfully) no joke.

IBM has now been brought into the three-year, $170m Intelligent Networks project at the utility, charged with finding a way to aggregate and analyse data off the sensor network.

Last-mile connection to the customer premises is also an interesting area with a WiMAX trial ongoing in Newcastle, although other technologies are also being considered.
