EDITOR'S NOTE

The ANZ Bank is sending out some very mixed messages about offshoring today.

In a media statement rife with euphemisms (our favourite being the Bangalore "centre for technology excellence and operations"), the bank admitted "building its operations" in Bangalore, India, but was anxious not to be seen as reducing technology jobs at home.

The Finance Sector Union, for one, will be watching over the coming months to check that any Australian workers replaced will be provided another role within the bank as promised.
