EDITOR'S NOTE

It seems now is the time for the start-up community - particularly those who've taken a leap of faith and shifted to hotspots like the Valley.

Jamcode - the developer of a crowdsourcing petrol prices app - is one example of a start-up turning a side-project into a full-time gig. According to the MD of US venture capital firm Foundry, they're not the only ones to go down that path either.

As an aside, the piece is also a welcome return to the iTnews fold for Liz Tay, who is now our US correspondent!
