EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Last week at Mobile World Congress, those vendors still strongly aligned with WiMAX were shuttled off to a breakfast briefing at a starkly dull hotel.

Most of the sober discussion was based around what niche areas WiMAX might compliment 4G technologies rather than compete with them. One remaining opportunity, it was said, was to roll-out WiMAX in those areas where cellular operators were too slow to invest in 4G technologies.

In Australia, Seven still does not seem to know what to do with the WiMAX spectrum it acquired with Unwired. And the waiting - as our lead story this afternoon illustrates - is getting costly.
