EDITOR'S NOTE

Good morning,

McAfee has calculated that global companies may have lost some US$1 trillion in intellectual property last year "owing to data theft".

The actual figures show 810 firms lost a combined US$4.6 billion worth and spent around US$600 million repairing damage from data breaches. The trillion dollar figure is an extrapolation of that data.

Recent World Bank bans have cast the spotlight back on offshoring deals, and these types of figures might keep it there for a little while longer.
