EDITOR'S NOTE

Good morning,

All eyes are on the telecommunications equipment sector this morning after Nortel Networks revealed it has filed for bankruptcy protection.

It's fair to say not many industry observers and analysts saw it coming - the signs may have been there with declining profits, but it's a big step taken today.

The company wants protection as it restructures and slims down its strategic focus. No doubt there will be a lot of interest in what this potentially means for the vendor's future in the coming days.
