EDITOR'S NOTE

Morning everyone,

AusCERT is the latest voice to add itself to F-Secure's campaign for a global law enforcement agency to tackle cybercrime.

The Finnish security firm's chief research officer, Mikko Hyppönen, has been calling for the establishment of one for years to act as some sort of deterrent to criminals.

It may need to come sooner rather than later, too - reports floating around the net by Russian rival Kaspersky seem to suggest that software developers who find themselves unemployed in the downturn could be tempted to cross to the dark side.

That's probably just scaremongering for the most part. But there's no doubting the scale of the internet security problem. The challenge for F-Secure is can their plan be more effective than existing international cooperation efforts between law enforcement agencies to catch these folks out.
