The proposed roll-out of fibre-to-the-node broadband internet may not be so crucial to the advancement of the Australian economy after all, according to an independent report. The speed data is transferred over the internet does not directly correlate with business and economic productivity, the report says.

Also on the local front, Optus has partnered with F-Secure to offer its Australian cable and DSL customers security against threats at no extra cost.
