Greetings.

In this afternoon’s iTnewswire we read that IBM has developed a mobile phone system designed to improve communications for hearing impaired users whilst making a racket about how its newly shipped Lotus Sametime 7.5 gives the company a lead in the unified communications game.

Dealing another blow to the ‘Macs are more secure’ argument, Apple has patched its QuickTime media player to fix seven critical vulnerabilities that could crash the Windows or Mac OS X application, or let attackers stuff their own malicious code into machines.

Mac fans disagreeing with that last paragraph will rejoice in the news that Microsoft has re-patched its re-patch while issuing a third fix for Internet Explorer flaws.

Any cool factor associated with the idea of customising software by combining different applications has now been stripped with the news that online CRM supplier Salesforce.com has added a ‘mashboard’ feature – a mash-up dashboard - to the next release of its application.

Finally, ideas from Australia’s R&D community may now get on the fast track to commercialisation with AARNet’s new third generation 10Gb/s network.

So, will a faster network help the local ICT research sector? Mashed up any good applications lately? No idea what we're on about? Email the Editor with your comments.
