This afternoon, Microsoft is open to more deals like one it just agreed with Novell for open-source Linux software, but believes customers will continue to pay for software.

Also making news, Skype has released a beta of Skype 3.0, the next major release of its messaging client. The application is the first major update since adding support for video chats last year.
