Welcome to this afternoon’s iTnewswire.

This afternoon, Samoa is the location for what is believed to be the first ever solar-powered cyber-community. The Via pc-1 Information Community Centre in the remote village of Ulutogia will address issues of education, health and government for local residents.

Despite legal victories by record labels and trade associations, the growth of peer-to-peer networks continues unabated. BitTorrent and versions of Edonkey remain destinations where people can trade files and get music and video content for free.

Yahoo!7 has launchedYahoo!7 Video, an online video site that allows users to search for videos from around the Web and upload user-generated content to share with others.

Fears of overheating laptop batteries continue as Hitachi announces that it will recall 16,000 laptop battery packs made by Sony. The battery packs cited in the recall are installed in Hitachi's Flora 210W and Flora Se210 laptops.

A developer who was recently awarded Microsoft's MVP status distributes adware with the software he creates, security professionals have said. Microsoft's own malware scanner pegs the MVP's software as a threat.

Is helping adware a legitimate business? Will peer-to-peer ever be stopped? Why not mail us your comments?
