In this afternoon’s news, Oracle chief executive Larry Ellison has announced that the software vendor will now offer support for Red Hat’s Linux distribution.

Explaining the move, Ellison claimed that a lack of true enterprise support for the Linux operating system has slowed its adoption. Rather than competing with Red Hat, the new service offering would effectively increase adoption of the Microsoft rival.

Also making headlines, software vendor DoubleTwist now plans to license a cracked version of Apple’s FairPlay copy-protection technology.

The company’s employee, Jon Lech Johansen, a 22-year-old Norway native who lives in San Francisco, managed to reverse-engineer the code that prevents iPod users from playing songs from download music stores other than Apple's iTunes.
