Welcome to the late edition of the iTnewsiwre.

This afternoon, criminals have broken into customer accounts at several American online brokers, including E*Trade, and made off with millions, brokers have acknowledged. Federal authorities are investigating.

An estimated 760 copyright and trademark intellectual property thefts in 69 countries between January and June 2006 cost companies nearly US$700 million, up seven percent from the year-ago period.

Apple has unveiled a new line of its MacBook Pro laptops that feature Intel's Core 2 Duo processors.

Microsoft has shifted Windows Defender from beta to final, and added limited free phone support to the no-cost anti-spyware software.

Scientists at US university MIT are close to putting together the pieces of a miniature gas-turbine engine with hopes that it could replace today's battery technology and be used to power laptops and mobile phones in the future.
