US military super-hacker arrested in UK

A man suspected of committing one of history’s biggest military computer hacks has been arrested by extradition forces.

Gary McKinnon, 39, of Wood Green in north London was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service Extradition Unit on Tuesday night, three years after his alleged hacks.

According to U.S. officials, McKinnon hacked into 53 military and NASA computer networks, causing $1million damage, deleting user accounts and changing passwords in 2002 and 2003. His efforts, described by Paul McNulty, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia as "The biggest military computer hack of all time," included obtaining administrator privileges, transmitting codes, information and commands, of deleting around 1,300 user accounts and critical system files.

The news arrives a week after SC reported Israel is seeking the extradition of a British couple, accused of writing spyware programs Israeli companies used for industrial espionage.
