Telstra Enterprise group wants dynamic editing tools

Telstra’s enterprise and government group is looking to add a collaboration layer to its virtual meeting suites to enable staff to dynamically work on materials.

The group's managing director, David Thodey, said he was working with both Cisco and Microsoft to bring collaboration functionality into existing WebEx and LiveMeeting deployments.

The group is also an existing SharePoint user, he said.

"We're looking at how to run more virtual meetings [within the group]," Thodey said.

"Sharing information and dynamically working on material is an interesting concept. We're working with the vendors to get more collaboration [benefits]."

Thodey was speaking at the launch of a sustainability white paper and series of return-on-investment calculators for ICT investment in green initiatives via a multi-city videoconference today.

He said his group, which specifically sells communication solutions to larger organisations, had cut its travel expenditure by 25 per cent in the last nine months by using more videoconferencing.

"It has changed the dynamics of how we interact," he said.

Thodey said he believed the calculations in the white paper - a joint effort with WWF Australia and Capgemini - could also help to build the business case for new sustainability initiatives as part of Telstra's ongoing transformation project.
