The National Australia Bank has offered to refund any bank fees charged as a result of a major disruption to its systems late last week.
The bank, which has been reticent to provide any details around the cause of Friday's service outage, today committed to “ensuring that no customer will be left out of pocket”.
In a statement released today, NAB promised that any bank fees charged to its customers or the customers of other banks as a direct result of the service outage will be refunded.
NAB’s tech staff worked through the night and over the weekend to credit accounts that were affected by the glitch. The bank said the glitch was corrected on Friday night, and affected NAB accounts should now be up-to-date and operating as normal.
NAB also took the step of opening around 100 branches across the country on Saturday to assist customers who were not paid on Friday.
Customers charged fees from financial institutions as a result of the outage have been asked to seek assistance at their local NAB branch, providing they can supply a copy of their statement detailing the charges in question.
Alternatively, affected customers can call the NAB's Customer Contact Centre on 13 22 65.
It was the second time in five months that the NAB experienced a major problem with its IT systems, following a similar fault in November last year.
“We recognise and regret the inconvenience this delay may have caused for some customers,” the bank said in a statement.
