Sydney niche distributor Lan 1 has signed up to distribute Motorola's Canopy product for wireless ISPs, carriers and enterprise customers.

Lan 1, a value-added distributor for IP networking, storage and security offerings, would be Motorola's first Australian partner to offer Canopy, Lan 1 said in a statement.

ISP and managed service provider channels were US-based wireless, broadband and automotive communications vendor Motorola's prime targets for Canopy sales, Lan 1 said.

Paul Guerra, general manager at Motorola's indirect business division, said the vendor had spent three months reviewing Australia's top valud-added distributors, and chose Lan 1 for its expertise in IP networking.

“Lan 1, as a dynamic, value-added distributor with more than 20 years in the industry, understands the business sell as well as the technical one, and is able to communicate with both its channel partners and end users,” he said.

Lan 1 would complement Motorola's existing Australian channel in the two-way radio market, Guerra said.

Motorola claims its Canopy wireless broadband provides always-on, high-speed broadband to private networks, such as in government or enterprises, and to internet service providers and carriers.

Canopy could cut a provider's start-up, maintenance and leased-line costs. The offering would also help resellers cross-sell other services, such as VoIP, data disaster recovery, remote back-up and remote management, Lan 1 said.

Lan 1 also provided design, configuration and installation services to ISPs wanting to get into wireless broadband, he said.

Daniel Lee, managing director at Lan 1, said Canopy complemented the distributor's existing vendor portfolio.

Lan 1 on-sold product from Adaptec, ATTO, Fujitsu, Iomega, JVC, Legato, Pioneer, Roxio, Snap Appliance, TDK, D-Link, Strix Systems, Axis Communications, BorderWare, Fortinet and SonicWall as well as Motorola.

“[Canopy] fits in neatly to provide additional functionality for our IP storage, IP security and IP networking product space,” Lee said.

Lan 1 has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, specialising in IP storage, IP networking and IP security products.
