According to DUO, the device, currently shipping in one and two gigabytes, includes built-in military-grade security features such as hardware-based encryption for data communication between home, office and other locations.

“Whether you’re an independent traveller, a sales executive or an IT manager, there’s an IronKey product that will let you take your data on the road without the usual security risks,” said Kendra Ross director at DUO.

“Being encrypted, people can’t perform brute force attacks and if anyone tries to break the password it seriously does self-destruct. After ten failed attempts it will shred all the info on the flash drive and no one can retrieve the programme,” said Ross.

Having gone through vigorous testing, IronKey’s catch phrase for the product is the‘world’s best USB drive’, Ross said.

Furthermore, the IronKey comes with its own FireFox browser and the ability to store personal passwords allowing users to surf the web safely, claimed DUO.

“If you want to send back confidential data while out on the road you can choose the Firefox browser which goes back through proxy servers back in the US,” said Ross.

A team of developers with backgrounds from the US Department of Homeland Security and companies such as Visa, Paypal, Authenex, Nokia, Cisco, Netscape, Valicert and Apple developed the device and is claimed to be built with metal casing and a unique serial number.

A 4Gb and 8Gb version is coming at the end of the year while a 16GB version will make an appearance next year.
