Loop boosts RACQ's email security
Security and connectivity integrator Loop Technology has installed an IronPort Systems’ spam product to the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ).

The RACQ was founded in 1905 with fewer than 20 motoring members. There are now around 1.1 million members and the organisation employs 1,000 staff across Queensland.

Given its main function as a motorists’ support service, the RACQ’s network is frequently addressed from offsite by about 200 handheld and mobile users. Thus e-traffic security is particularly important.

David Page network engineer at RACQ said Loop installed three IronPort C100 security appliances to enhance its anti-virus and anti-spam framework, primarily in order to address “the spam irritant”.

“Our users were complaining about seemingly ever-increasing volumes of spam. They were seeing from 10 to 20 spam emails every day and, while these were mostly obvious and just being deleted, the volume was impacting on productivity and people were irritated by it,” he said.

IronPort’s C100 email security appliance filters traffic for both content and sender reputations and allows for fully centralised email management.

The C100 also includes IronPort Virus Outbreak Filters which provide a critical first layer of defence against new malware outbreaks well before anti-virus signatures are in place, said Page.
