Winners and losers at YouTube 'Oscars'
Video sharing site YouTube has made its first round of awards, announcing the seven winning videos selected by users in what the site hopes will become an annual event.

Categories for the competition included 'most creative', 'most inspirational', 'best music' and 'most adorable'.

The 'most adorable' award went to a short animated piece entitled Kiwi!, while US rock band OK Go won the award for 'most creative' video with a three-minute treadmill acrobatics display set to the band's song Here It Goes Again.

The award for 'best music' went to singer/songwriter Terra Naomi for Say It's Possible.

The award for 'best series' went to Ask A Ninja. The comedy 'advice' series features a ninja who answers readers' questions and promises certain death with the catch-phrase: "I look forward to killing you soon."

Like any awards show, YouTube's were not without controversy. At least one winning video drew the ire of readers and led some to question the competition's legitimacy.

Smosh Short 2: Stranded, the winner of the 'best comedy' award, was swamped with negative comments. Some users even went as far as to accuse the creators of stuffing ballots and paying YouTube for the award.

YouTube did not immediately return a request for comment. A company news release and the contest's official page list user votes as the only method of selecting a winner.
