Adobe passes on quick Vista fixes

Adobe won't issue any patches to enable the majority of their existing software suites to run under Windows Vista. Instead the software vendor requires users to waiting for future versions.

In a PDF-document posted on its website, Adobe warned that its existing applications can experience "minimal issues".

The company currently only supports Flash Player 9 and the the consumer oriented Photoshop Elements 5.0.3 and Premier Elements 3.0.2 on Microsoft's latest operating system.

The company advises against running any of its other applications. Acrobat. Adobe's flagship Photoshop C2 suite installs and runs with "minimal known issues", as does the InDesign desktop publishing tool, the Dreamweaver HTML editor, Flash editor and After Effects, a video post production tool. Adobe plans to release new versions for those products this spring and summer and does not plan to issue updates to the current versions.

Adobe is typically slow to release version of its product that support the latest operating systems. The company has yet to release a Photoshop version that supports Intel powered Apple computers. The OS X Rosetta emulation engine allows current versions to function, but this has a severe impact on the application's performance.

An Intel-compatible version of Photoshop is currently in beta and is slated for release this spring.
