HP aims Integrity servers at small firms

HP has announced two new entry class servers, alongside the release of HP-UX 11i version 3.

The two new offerings are the BL860c blade for the new c-class servers and the rx2660 rack optimised server.

Both servers are designed to hold up two Intel Itanium 2 CPUs, and support double chip sparing allowing two separate memory DRams to fail before memory needs to be replaced.

The BL860c shares the same BladeSystem c7000 enclosure with other HP ProLiant and HP StorageWorks blades, furthering the flexibility and expandability that the blade design offers.

The rx2660 is aimed at entry level markets and is available in rack mountable, pedestal and reduced acoustics version for in-office deployments.

The latter two configurations show that HP is aiming this product squarely at the entry level server market and small businesses which do not necessarily have the space for dedicated server rooms or data centres.

The size, scalability and price point of these units provide the option of high availability to small and upcoming businesses that might normally consider high performance servers out of their reach.

A base configuration of the HP Integrity BL860c Server Blade has a list price starting at US$3,827 and is expected to begin shipping in March. The rx2660 is shipping now and has a starting price of US$4,931.
