With the NSW state election approaching, the ACS is holding a panel discussion on the future direction of IT in the state.

Building Prosperity Through ICT, will focus attention on technology issues and stimulate dialogue on how best to drive growth across the hi-tech sector.

Professor Roy Green, Dean of Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) will join John Della Bosca, Minister for Commerce, Finance and Industrial Relations (Labor) and the Gregory Stephen Pearce, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Housing and Commerce (Liberal) on the panel.

Both parties will provide their take on building prosperity in NSW by expanding and supporting the ICT sector, ensure that an adequate supply of skilled ICT professionals, off-shoring of IT services, the development of small to medium domestic IT enterprises, and the re-establishment of a dedicated ICT ministerial portfolio to oversee all aspects of ICT policy.

According to the ACS, governments have a critical role to play in stimulating growth and helping Australian businesses capture opportunities that will drive economic development and prosperity.

“We need policies that encourage local investment in ICT research and development, provide infrastructure to support changing business paradigms, and ensure that we have the right capacity and mix of skills to meet current and future business needs,” the industry body argues.

The event is being held on Wednesday 21 February, 5.30pm – 7.30pm (Panel Discussion - Barnet Long Room) at Customs House, 31 Alfred Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
