To boldly go where no home cinema has been before...

Trekkie builds Enterprise home cinema
Film fan Gary Reighn has built a replica of the bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise to house his home cinema system.

The room cost around US$15,000 to set up and Reighn has chronicled the design and building of the home cinema on his Reighn.com website.

He insists that he is not a dedicated Star Trek fan. "Let me start off by saying that I am not a die-hard Trekkie," he says on his web page.

"While I do like the various incarnations of Star Trek on TV and film, I do not consider myself a fanatical fan. In building a home theatre, I wanted something unique and fun."

Despite Reighn's assertions, the home cinema includes a replica of the original Enterprise date of construction plaque, and a life-size cardboard cut-out of Captain Jean Luc Picard from Star trek: The Next Generation.

The room is fitted out in "the colour scheme from the original series (grey walls, red railing and consoles, red door, black trim etc)".

It also has replica sliding doors, faux windows looking out onto stars and replica computer screens on the walls.

The website does not say whether Mr Reighn is married.
