Security firm prepares for public beta testing.

Check Point preps ZoneAlarm 7.0 beta
Check Point Software has unveiled plans to begin the technical public beta testing phase of its ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7.0.

The latest offering's antivirus engine, which has hourly signature updates, detects and removes a wider variety of threats, according to the firm.

Version 7.0 also features anti-spyware functionality to provide an additional layer of defence against blended threats.

The incorporated OSFirewall has been updated with new malware-blocking capabilities that target spyware, rootkits and key-loggers.

A newly developed Auto-Learn Mode automatically configures security settings based on the user's PC environment and behaviour.

"With the increasing sophistication of hacker attacks and the rapid exploitation of new vulnerabilities, it is more important than ever to take a layered approach with PC security," said Laura Yecies, vice president and general manager of Check Point's consumer division.

"Many types of attacks mimic each other in behaviour or structure, blurring the lines between viruses and spyware."

The current version of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6.5 was released in June. The beta testing for ZoneAlarm 7.0 is expected to last four to seven weeks.
