Star Wars wins battle for best ever movie quote

Obi-Wan Kenobi's immortal advice to Luke Skywalker ("May the force be with you") has topped hundreds of other classic lines to become the favourite movie quote of all time.

Internet service provider AOL conducted a nationwide poll with more than 100,000 responses which placed Star Wars, the sci-fi adventure classic, as the all-time favourite.

From a list of 100 films, AOL users whittled the choice down to the top 10 'quote' movies which included Goodfellas, Life of Brian and Taxi Driver. In this final top 10 stand-off, more than one in four of the votes cast were for Star Wars.

With mostly male sci-fi fans clinching the top spot for Star Wars, AOL believes it was the female vote that secured second place for the iconic 1980s film Dirty Dancing. The line "Nobody puts baby in the corner" clocked 21 per cent overall.

Other all-time favourite quotes included "We're going to need a bigger boat" from Steven Spielberg's classic 1975 movie Jaws with eight per cent of the vote, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's "I'll be back" from The Terminator with 10 per cent.

Other films included Jerry Maguire, Get Carter and Carry On Cleo with Kenneth Williams's "Infamy. Infamy. They've all got it in for me."
