Intel shakes up top management

Intel has reshuffled it higher US management positions.

The company said that its current general manager of the Channel Platforms Group William Siu and Richard Wirt, co-manager for the Software and Solutions Group both will retire by the end of this year.

The marketing and sales will be headed up by Sean Maloney, who currently co-leads the Mobility Group. Maloney replaces Eric Kim, who has been appointed general manager of the digital home group which included the Intel Viiv brand. Kim previously worked for Samsung.

Kim takes the seat of Donald MacDonald, who will become vice president of Marketing and Brands under Maloney.

The mobility group that is responsible for the Centrino and Core Duo brands in the future will be headed up solely David Perlmutter. Intel also will create a business unit for low power products and the ultra mobile PC market that will be headed up by Anand Chandrasekher, the former co-general manager of the Sales and Marketing Group.

All appointments are effective immediately. A new general manager for the Channel Platforms Group will be appointed at a later time.

Intel is currently undergoing a corporate restructuring and is seeking to cut US$1bn in annual costs. The chipmaker earlier this month said that it would lay off 1,000 managers in an effort to speed up the decision making process within the company.
