Dimension Data has rolled out a wireless network for 1300 students and 200 teachers at Melbourne Grammar School.

Dimension Data has rolled out a Cisco-based wireless network for 1300 students and 200 teachers at Melbourne Grammar School.

Martin Aungle, DiData spokesperson said users would be able to connect wirelessly to the school's LAN from any classroom, across its three campuses, two in South Yarra and one in Caulfield.

"A combination of Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G handsets and portable soft phones was deployed across the campus, allowing teachers to use their notebooks as their primary desktop telephone device," Aungle said.

The previous PBX-based communications system was one phone, set up with multiple extensions where staff members had to share the line and take messages for each other, said Aungle.

The junior school in Caulfield was connected via a point-to-point microwave bridge and also had Cisco wireless router installed so year five and six students could use the network.

Aungle said the project was part of an ongoing relationship between DiData and Melbourne Grammer School and was running over the course of the school year.

"Additional wireless access points are due to be rolled out in the June term break and this wil complete the project," he said.

Aungle wasn't able to disclose the worth of the contract.
