Top 10 malware for April
Anti-virus software vendor, Sophos has revealed the top 10 malware threats across the globe in April.

The report, compiled from Sophos's monitoring stations, reveals Netsky-P, which is two years old, has returned to the top of the virus chart, replacing Zafi-B - first detected almost two years ago - as the number one threat.

According to Sophos, 86 percent of threats during April were spyware. Hackers used this software to download malicious code, spy on users, steal information and gain unauthorised access to computers.

However, email viruses and worms continued to decline as a proportion of all malware, Sophos said.

The top ten viruses in April 2006 were as follows:

1. Netsky-P 18.5 percent
2. Zafi-B 16.9 percent
3. Nyxem-D 8.5 percent
=4. MyDoom-AJ 3.9 percent
=4. Netsky-D 3.9 percent
6. Mytob-FO 3.6 percent
7. Mytob-C 2.8 percent
8. Mytob-Z 2.6 percent
9. Dolebot-A 2.2 percent
10. Mytob-AS 1.3 percent
Others 35.8 per cent

Sophos has identified around 121,096 email threats for April, an increase of 1054 on March.
