Businesses enticed to trade in old phones.

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced a BlackBerry trade-in program for business customers planning to upgrade to BlackBerry 7 handsets.

RIM offers cash rebate for BlackBerry 7 upgrades

The smartphone manufacturer has launched a website offering up to $100 cash, per device, for customers retiring six or more older BlackBerry handsets.

To be eligible, customers need to purchase at least six BlackBerry Bold 9900 handsets from an Australian carrier between September 1 and November 30 this year, and receive a receipt with the handsets' IMEI numbers.

Customers purchasing new BlackBerry Bold 9790 devices from Telstra are also eligible for the rebate.

The trade-in value of old BlackBerry handsets -- including Pearl, Curve, Bold, Storm, Torch 9860, 8700 series and 8800 series -- is determined by the condition and model.

Any devices to be traded in must have been purchased in Australia from an Australian carrier and be in working condition, with a battery.

Customers are not required to return the old phone's box and cables. Collection of the old handsets is arranged by RIM.

Traded in devices may be resold by RIM to retailers, wholesalers or consumers, with all personal data and corporate IT policies removed by RIM's Global Repair Services prior to the sale.

For a full list of terms and conditions, pay a visit to RIM's trade-up website.
