Shell contracts Prelude LNG maintenance system

Shell Australia will deploy a $10 million computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) for its Prelude floating liquefied natural gas facility off north-west Western Australia.

The petroleum giant will use the CMMS to optimise "maintenance, reliability and productivity" of the floating LNG production facility, set to be the largest floating structure ever built.

The CMMS will also put data and reporting tools in the hands of Prelude staff to assist them in executing asset maintenance and inspection plans.

The system is to be installed by Wood Group PSN, using resources from oil & gas sister company, ODL, and Wood Group Integrity Management.

It is to be delivered by contract teams in Perth and the United Kingdom.

Wood Group has previously worked with Shell on contracts in the UK North Sea, Asia and the United States.

Late last month, Alcatel-Lucent was contracted by Shell to deliver communication and entertainment systems to Prelude.
