Seventh Day Adventists see the light in cloud

The Seventh Day Adventist Church has consolidated 20 sites across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands onto a private cloud platform.

The platform is a custom flavour of VSPEX, a family of reference architecture configurations of virtualisation, server, network and storage technology aimed at private cloud seekers.

The customisation was performed by a Sydney EMC partner, Tecala Group.

Much of the work on the project appears to have been completed a number of years ago.

A case study says the church's South Pacific division sought to change its IT infrastructure design as early as 2006, linking administrative groups with a WAN and delivering hosted managed services, including backup, over that network.

It said in October last year that a "private cloud" linked the administrative entities for "close to three years"; however, the VSPEX architecture was only released in April this year.

It was unclear what changes were made to have the site certified a VSPEX customer.

Tecala claims to be the first EMC partner to offer custom versions of VSPEX.
