HP job cuts hit Aussie exec team

HP has laid off several high-ranking executives and technical data centre staff in Australia, as part of a move to cull eight percent of its global workforce.

The worldwide restructure and cost-cutting endeavour was first announced late last month. It is the largest staff purge in HP’s 73 year history, with 27,000 of the company’s 350,000-strong workforce to go.

HP told its partners this week that it would “streamline operations and remove complexity” from its Australian operation, to be “easier to work with”.

iTnews' sister publication CRN revealed that HP's South Pacific PSG and ESSN general managers Janice Cox and Kevin Rooney would leave the company.

Sources told CRN that HP had also taken the axe to its technical team, with data centre workers in HP’s Forest Hill, Victoria facility to be let go.

HP declined to confirm reports it was outsourcing data centre staff to Malaysia.

Earlier this month, HP South Pacific managing director Paul Brandling left the company after 19 years.
