Sydney-based internet service provider Comcen will cease to exist from next month as the company finalises a transition over to sister company Spintel.
Comcen notified customers late Wednesday this week that the brand would be amalgamated into Spintel from the end of next month, with all customers transitioned over to the sister service without disruption.
“By amalgamating the two companies, we will be able to streamline processes, creating greater efficiency and improved customer support which will allow the best of both brands for customers,” the company told subscribers.
“There will be no change in management... all existing staff will be retained and your existing contract will remain as is.”
It follows nearly a decade of a resources sharing agreement that saw the same staff, infrastructure and plans offered to subscribers of both providers.
It appears, however, that the companies never officially merged as entities.
Operations manager Con Georgiopoulos said the amalgamation was purely a paperwork exercise and a swap of customers from one brand to another.
He offered few reasons as to why the Spintel brand, formerly, was chosen over Comcen, which has attracted legal scrutiny in recent years over a website hosted on its network.
“Over the last few years we’ve been concentrating on building the Spintel brand through advertising,” he told iTnews.
He did not disclose how many customers would be affected by the change.
The company claims to be a top 20 internet service provider in Australia though this could not be verified at time of writing.
