Mirrors subsidiary Internode's offering.

iiNet has introduced a data packs program that will allow subscribers to pay to exceed their monthly broadband quotas without being shaped to a slower speed.

iiNet introduces data packs program

The program mirrors subsidiary Internode's data block feature. It offers iiNet, Westnet and Netspace customers with a bevy of packs between 5GB of additional downloads or uploads for $10 and 100GB for $80.

Rather than increasing the upper limit of data that a user can access in a month, data packs reduce the amount of data that the customer is recorded to have used.

Subscribers are thus unable to preemptively increase their quota without already having consumed the desired amount of data, or more than double their quota for any given month.

The data packs may be applied to either the peak or off-peak period and expire at the end of the customer's billing month.

iiNet social media coordinator Matthew Jones told users of the Whirlpool user forum that the company had decided to provide the ability after analysing data from Internode’s existing program.

Though available on most consumer and business plans offered by iiNet, customers in Telstra’s South Brisbane fibre area, as well as mobile broadband, TransACT and satellite customers will not be eligible for the data packs.

Similarly, those on legacy broadband plans are also ineligible for the initiative.

Traditionally, if you had a personal relationship with each of your customers, you could have done this. But when you’re looking at bigger organisations, they’re not able to have that sort of personal touch.
