NBN Co awards Tyco $100m deal

NBN Co has awarded an initial $100 million deal to TE Connectivity for a range of cables and components for the national broadband network.

The winner was better known by its previous name, Tyco Electronics.

TE was contracted to "supply patch cords, feeder cables, drop cables, splice closures, multi-port terminals and other components", according to a statement issued today.

The total worth of the contract was about $400 million over five years, NBN Co said.

NBN Co had already bought separate passive components from Corning, Prysmian and Warren & Brown.

"This is the final of four passive optical network equipment contracts that now completes the suite of components we need for the NBN fibre construction rollout," NBN Co's head of corporate services Kevin Brown said.

"We are pleased to have been able to attract a range of suppliers committed to working with us to meet our needs and timeframes."

TE Connectivity has offices in Sydney and Melbourne, and two factories in Berkeley Vale on the NSW Central Coast.
