Beverage maker Frucor has signed a multi-million dollar deal to have its SAP and business intelligence systems hosted by Fujitsu in Sydney.

Frucor hands SAP hosting to Fujitsu

The deal was said to have been "influenced" by Frucor's parent, the Japanese drinks giant Suntory, moving its global infrastructure into the cloud.

Frucor – best known for making the V energy drink and Spring Valley fruit juices – said in a statement that it was expanding on a ten-year SAP investment.

The company outsourced the management of some of its SAP servers and hosted others internally, according to a Fujitsu spokesman.

It also ran its business intelligence environment in-house.

Fujitsu said it would start transitioning the servers to its Sydney data centre environment in April.

The IT services giant would also provide service delivery management and SAP support services.

Frucor's group IS manager Paul Miller was attracted to the pay-by-use model for IT infrastructure, which would provide flexibility in meeting seasonal demand for the company's products.

"Ours is a seasonal business with a summer peak for our products," Miller said.

"Accurate IT capacity planning under a traditional, three-years-in-advance purchasing model is impossible."
