Datacom scoops $10m services deal

IT services company Datacom has won a $10 million IT services contract with Norfolk Group Holdings (Norfolk Group) in Australia and New Zealand.

Michael Browne, CEO at Datacom, told iTnews the win was an example of "another major organisation choosing to work with a local service provider as opposed to a multinational".

Browne said the win was important strategically and for the specific skills of individuals in the business. "[It's] just a positive all round event for the company," Browne said.

According to a statement from Datacom, the deal was worth around $10 million over three years, with an optional two year extension. It expected the contracted services to go fully live in October.

David Gregson, group IT manager at Norfolk Group, said the company's outsourcing model was about improving business flexibility and services to its internal businesses and their customers.

“Outsourcing the majority of IT services to Datacom is a strategic decision which immediately allows us to optimise our IT infrastructure and longer term, will underpin our success through continuous improvement," Gregson said.

The deal would see Datacom moving Norfolk Group to a centralised IT platform based on Citrix MetaFrame thin client architecture. This was to allow common file and data access across Norfolk Group’s companies regardless of geographical location or type of network connection, according to a statement from Datacom.

The service provider would also look after hosting and management of Norfolk Group’s mission critical IT infrastructure from its Sydney data centre.

Datacom would also provide Norfolk Group with services such as desktop support to the company's 1200 IT users throughout Australia and New Zealand, LAN/WAN services, IT procurement and asset management, application development and disaster recovery planning.
