The Australian operation of data storage vendor Quantum unveiled a web-based storage systems purchasing tool and deal registration mechanism dubbed Quantum Marketplace.

Its systems purchasing tool is designed to prevent "mismatched configuration choices and pricing errors that can delay or eliminate deals in progress", Quantum said.

The tool lets partners select, configure, price and order Quantum's line of autoloaders, tape libraries and disk-based backup systems online.

Marketplace is an addition to the company's "Alliance" portal, a product information resource for partners.

It integrates the company’s Opportunity Identification Program which provides partners with deal registration services and discounts. It also reminds sales partners about related selling opportunities, such as media, through automatic prompts during the configuration process.

Craig Tamlin, country manager, Australia and New Zealand at Quantum, said the portal lets resellers register a deal, get a preferred price and prevented so-called “drive-by” deals. “Resellers can request preferred pricing if they’re the first to register a deal,” he said.

“I don’t understand how channel-based companies are able to operate without some sort of deal registration program,” he said.

Using the deal registration facility, resellers can be guaranteed a 10 percent margin, Tamlin said.
