Queensland prefers surveillance over internet service.

Queensland Rail shortlists rail WiFi suppliers

Queensland has whittled down its list of potential suppliers for Queensland Rail's (QR) planned WiFi rollout for Citytrains from 29 to three.

Dimension Data, Wellard Technlogies and Fujitsu will now have to submit an offer to QR by July.

But before internet access is even considered the state's first goal is to establish a system to monitor commuters.

"The priority for us is to have the network set-up, and streaming CCTV implemented," Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said in a statement.

"We will then work with the selected technology partner to develop the best business case and systems to implement WiFi coverage."

A winner is expected to been selected by August with trials to begin in October.
