Cassa founder Chris Hill will exit the Cellnet-owned distributor at the end of next week.

Cassa founder Chris Hill will exit the Cellnet-owned distributor at the end of next week.

Hill founded Cassa in 1994 and sold the company to Cellnet Group for $1.4 million in cash in 2003.

Hill told CRN his departure was a natural progression. "I’ve built up the team in the past 18 months to two years to take over," he said.

Headquartered in Brisbane, Cassa distributes ASUS notebooks, motherboards, video and multimedia cards, networking and memory products.

Hill hinted that his position would not be replaced as yet and IT Wholesale GM Daryl Tucker may take responsibility for both the Cassa and ITW divisions. "I don’t believe it’s necessary for two roles in there," he said.

He said that Kelvin Mulholland, national sales manager at Cassa was capable. "He’s been working with me for four years. The next four people under Kelvin have eight to 10 years experience in IT distribution," he said.

"We’ve steered [Cassa] in a position where the business can run without me," Hill said, adding that he had family commitments.

Cellnet’s Cassa division has around 35 staff and staff numbers had increased since the acquisition.
Hill said he would take "long service leave" and stay out of the industry for a while.
