Former Quantum MD dies

Former Quantum MD Simon Harvey died earlier this week, following complications resulting from an operation in Brisbane.

Harvey, a well-known member of the Australian IT industry, was Asia-Pacific MD at the tape and disk storage company for four years before moving to Indian storage, networking and security outfit, Apara four months ago, where he was acting as a consultant.

He had been "ill for quite some time" and had kept having fainting spells which were believed to have had something to do with a serious car accident when he was young, a spokesperson said. It was believed that the accident had resulted in damage to his internal organs. During surgery, Harvey developed an infection resulting in death.

Further details were not available. Harvey had been in hospital for the past six weeks.

Prior to his role at Quantum, Harvey worked at networking hardware company Netcomm and Banksia. He was also known for his charity work for The Lighthouse Foundation, a spokesperson said.

Speaking to CRN, David Stewart, MD at Netcomm, said he had dealt with Simon on and off for about 14 years. "He joined Netcomm when I was at Banksia about eight years ago," he said, describing Harvey as an "exceptionally nice guy" who was friendly and "always trying to put a deal together."

"He was one of those guys you meet and remember. He [was] a true networker," Stewart said.

Harvey is survived by his wife Kaz and children. His funeral will take place in Brisbane on Monday 18 October at 3pm at Mount Thompson Crematorium, West Chapel, Nursery Road, Holland Park.
