Better ways to integrate Apps and Java.

VMware and Google have been showing off the fruits of a year of collaboration to better integrate cloud computing and Google Apps.

The two companies are working on the integration of Java into Google programming, using the Spring Java platform and a variety of new tools, including Google App Engine for Business which includes enterprise pricing rates and easy management via a central console.

“Companies are actively looking to move toward cloud computing. They are certainly attracted by the economic advantages associated with cloud, but increasingly are focused on the business agility and innovation promised by cloud computing,” said Paul Maritz, president and CEO of VMware.

“VMware and Google are aligning to reassure our mutual customers and the Java community that choice and portability are of utmost importance to both companies. We will work to ensure that modern applications can run smoothly within the firewalls of a company’s datacentre or out in the public cloud environment.”

SpringSource's Tool Suite, and an application development tool called Spring Roo have been integrated with the Google Web Toolkit. At the Google I/O keynote David Glazer, a software maker at Google led a demonstration that used Roo to put together an expenses application with a mobile front-end in minutes.

“We put together an application with 200 keystrokes, and I counted them, to build something that there must be 200 versions of running in companies,” he said.

“Google will continue to invest in cloud platform by tailoring it for business use.”
