HP updates Pavilion and Compaq notebook lines

HP has unveiled a range of 17 notebooks including updates to its popular Pavilion and Compaq lines aimed at consumer and business users and offering a choice of Intel and AMD processors.

The company said that businesses and consumers can turn to HP for the " deepest portfolio of notebook products", and a wide range of technology choices to meet specific mobile computing needs.

"HP's commitment to providing a choice of technology helps us maintain our position as the worldwide leader in notebook sales," said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager of HP's Notebook Global Business Unit.

Nine of the notebooks are pitched at business users. The HP 425 and 625 are the lowest priced units, and include optional wireless, a built-in webcam and a spill resistant keyboard which combines a layer of Mylar under the keyboard with a drainage system for channelling spills.

The ProBook 6450b and ProBook 6550b notebooks, meanwhile, include Intel Core i7, i5 and i3 processors. Users can also opt for Intel HD graphics or a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 540v processor.

Screens include a 14in (6450b/6455b) or 15.6in (6550b/6555b) high-definition LED-backlit display.

The addition of AMD multi-core processors, such as the Phenom II Dual-Core N620, to its business notebooks has led to performance and speed gains of up to 70 per cent, while

boosting battery life by almost a quarter, the firm claimed.

Mobile workers are targeted with the 13.3in ProBook 4325s, the 14in ProBook 4425s, and the 15.6in ProBook 4525s. Again users can choose between wireless connectivity including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The b and s series notebooks include professional tools such as the HP Power Assistant software, which can help with energy monitoring. Prices and availability vary by product and region.

The consumer notebooks have been designed with form and functionality in mind, according to HP, and reflect the firm's Muse (Materials, Usability, Sensory appeal and Experiences) ethos. They come in a range of colours with etched metal finishes and customisable artist-designed wallpapers.

These include a range of thin and light Pavilion models, including the dm4, dv5, dv6 and dv7, described as high performing and ideal for rich media users.The updated Mini 210, meanwhile, features 3-D PC surface technology, while the 110 offers an integrated six-cell battery for improved battery life.

"With these new designs, we offer a broad portfolio of notebook PCs and Minis that are innovative on the outside and the inside," said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager of consumer notebooks at HP.

"Each notebook provides a unique experience for the customer and allows them to express their personality."
