Global Deduplication Array.

EMC has released a new storage array which it claims will allow companies to control the scale of data they have to manage.

The Data Domain Global Deduplication Array (GDA) is the fastest inline deduplication system currently available, according to EMC, and offers throughput speeds of up to 12.8TB per hour, and up to 14.2PB of logical back-up space.

"The Data Domain GDA is blisteringly fast and big enough for significant datacentre back-up consolidation," said Brian Biles, vice president of product management at EMC's Backup Recovery Systems division.

"Its dynamic load balancing, single deduplication storage pool, namespace and tight integration with backup software makes it easier to operate than [products from] competitors that don't have its scale."

EMC said that the system is aligned with Symantec NetBackup and Backup Exec, and makes it easier for companies to manage data in an efficient manner while reducing load on the network.

The array should be well suited to large enterprises, according to EMC, and is capable of processing "hundreds" of terabytes of data.

It can handle up to 270 concurrent back-up jobs, making multiple tasks quicker to perform and decreasing the time needed for back-ups.

The EMC Data Domain GDA will be available from the winter.
