Commercial launch with 165 activated accounts.

Vividwireless has released the prices for wireless broadband services on its Perth WiMAX network, with its largest plan costing $99 per month for 40 GB of data.

The plans were available either month-to-month or under a 24-month contract.

The service would be throttled to 64 Kbps when users reached their threshold; however, they would be proactively offered add-on data packs starting at $20 for 1GB and costing $10 per GB on average.

Chief executive Martin Mercer said that the network had soft-launched a fortnight ago ahead of the commercial launch today.

He said there were 165 activated services and customer target numbers had been set, but declined to reveal them.

Vividwireless’ TV commercials did not quote a theoretical or peak speed and Mercer said the provider would refrain from doing so.

He said the company had deployed “probes” in the network - currently 110 base stations - to test speeds over a period of time, and would publish them once enough data had been collected.

Huawei supplied the base station technology as well as the USB modems provided to customers.

Vividwireless customers also had access to a limited amount of unmetered content, including traffic for TiVO, Engin, vividwireless and The West Australian newspaper.

Mercer said vividwireless had 44 retail points of presence in Perth, primarily via Harvey Norman and Dick Smith stores.
