Silent demonstration on internet filtering.

Two artists are behind a flash mob event scheduled for the evening of April fool's day to protest the Federal Government's internet filtering plans.

Gagged flash mob planned for Sydney

Sydneysiders would be asked to wear a gag and "walk around the city being censored".

Although the action was currently limited to Sydney, organisers said they'd "love the April Fools flashmob project to be a national event - held in all capital cities around Australia."

"We plan to get as many volunteers as possible to walk around being censored," said co-organiser Simon Frew.

"The easiest way to do this is to wear a gag, but we'd like to encourage people to come up with more creative ways to represent the tyranny of censorship."

The artists also envisioned roving street theatre performances in conjunction with the flash mob.

The action had the backing of the Pirate Party Australia.

It is planned to start at 5:30pm, Thursday April 1 at Hyde Park North, near the fountain and conclude in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art at Circular Quay.

The protest time put it after the expiry for April fools jokes in Australia, which was typically noon.
