Includes disaster recovery system for electoral roll.

CSC Australia has won the right to manage the mainframe and network communication services underpinning Australia's electoral roll for another four years.

CSC scoops $8m AEC extension

The $8 million deal announced today will also see CSC implement "a disaster recovery system to protect data held by the Australian Electoral Commission", it said in a statement.

CSC has managed the Commission's mainframe since 1997, when the agency was part of cluster 3 outsourcing agreement.

Cluster 3 comprised five agencies "seeking mainframe, mid-range and desktop services together with managed voice and data communications services", according to the announcement at the time.

That deal was "conservatively valued at around $250 million over a five year period."

The Australian Electoral Commission's chief information officer Michael Cuddihy said the latest extension demonstrated the Commission's "confidence in CSC to provide IT services to upkeep one of Australia's most business critical systems".

CSC believed the extension positioned the services giant "for growth in the Australian federal market."
